Counting rules
Words use language-aware browser segmentation when available. Characters count Unicode code points, including punctuation and line breaks. Without spaces excludes all whitespace. Sentences use English and CJK ending punctuation, while paragraphs are separated by blank lines. Reading time uses 150, 200 or 250 words per minute; a completed read aloud replaces the estimate with the actual duration.
Documents and local storage
Import DOCX, ODT, RTF, TXT or MD files as text. Convert older DOC files to DOCX first. Document parsing and counting run in your browser. Saved drafts remain in this browser and are lost if site data is cleared. Read aloud uses available system voices, which may be local or remote.
